In addition to our child sponsorship program, Love Abides has been involved in many other ministry projects! It is a blessing for us to assist the Tawa community in important ways as we are made aware of needs. These are some of the projects we have been part of:
Mercy’s House
In 2020, our planned mission trip to Kenya had to be postponed indefinitely due to the Coronavirus Pandemic. We became aware of a young mother named Mercy who was living in a shack that was barely standing. It had dirt floors and just one small room and bed. Her 2 boys had to lay under the bed at night. Our team members each donated some of their trip fee to build Mercy a new home. In 2022, we were blessed to be able to visit Mercy and her boys in that home!
Food Distributions
On several occasions, Love Abides has been able to provide corn (maize) to the Tawa community during times of severe drought. During 2 mission trips, we were blessed to distribute the corn while we were there. Other times, we were able to send the funds to our friend, Sarah, and she ordered/distributed the corn to the families.
Christmas Blessing!
For Christmas, 2023, we asked our Love Abides supporters to donate to our Christmas Love for Tawa campaign. Money raised was used to purchase oil and wheat flour for 300 families in Tawa. They would use the oil & flour to make chapati…a very special Christmas treat for them!
Construction at Kakuswi
Over the years, it has been our joy to be part of constructing many buildings at Kakuswi Special School for the Deaf. From the first year we went there when the school consisted of just a small dorm building and some outhouses, to this past year when we toured the dining hall, 3-story classrooms, administration building, staff housing, vocational building, 2-story boys and girls dorms, bathrooms with running water and flushing toilets! In 2024, we worked on the newest building…a dispensary to attend to the medical needs of the students. God has done amazing things in growing this school! We are so happy to have been part of it!
Water tanks
For our June, 2024 mission trip, we collected funds to purchase water storage tanks for the Tawa community. What a joy to be able to bless 20 families!
Esther’s House
Prior to our 2024 trip, we received a generous donation after our trip was already funded. We asked our friend, Sarah, what special project we could help with and she immediately thought of Esther. Esther is a widow who also has lost her 3 children. She is raising 3 of her grandchildren. Her small home was falling down around them. We sent the money ahead of our trip and we were able to visit Esther while we were in Kenya – in her nearly finished new home! Our team also pooled our money to buy new furniture for the family.
Faith and Jane
January, 2024 we were told about 2 teenage girls from the Tawa community who do very well in school. Jane and Faith were to go on to high school but their families lacked the funds to pay their tuition. Love Abides is sponsoring them for this year so that they can go to high school and receive a good education. This is so important, especially for girls in Kenya.
